Healthy Lifestyles

We all want great health.  In prevention of heart disease there are important lifestyle changes we can implement to limit our risk, these include:

·        Smoking cessation-This lifestyle modification is the number one modifiable risk factor for many diseases.

·        Proper nutrition-This includes a diet that is low in saturated fats and cholesterol, high in fiber and appropriate caloric content for each individual.

·        Exercise-Getting the appropriate amount of physical activity is very important.  Our bodies are designed for physical work; however with modern technology we typically do not get enough physical activity.  That is why exercise is needed.

If you have questions concerning any of these lifestyle modifications, ask your cardiologist at your next appointment.

Exercise Prescription

Exercise is medicine.  Significant research supports that increasing physical activity through exercise is beneficial to overall health.  Exercise can help to reduce cardiovascular risk factors such as high blood pressure, diabetes, excess lipids and cholesterol and can help to raise HDL levels, the good fats.  Exercise can also help with other diseases such as osteoporosis and other skeletal disease, arthritis, pulmonary disease, and even limit the effects of some cancers.

Cascade Heart’s Exercise Prescription program is a progression of guided exercise to benefit our patients with greater health and fitness.  Each exercise prescription is tailored to the individual’s needs and goals.  If you are interested in beginning an exercise program or want to see greater results from you current exercise regimen, ask your Cardiologist at your next appointment.
